Doha, November 6th 2012: Katara, the Cultural Village proudly presents, the critically acclaimed and award nominated, Mary Stuart, a play by Friedrich Schiller which depicts the last days of Mary, Queen of Scots. The performance will kick start Thursday 8th November followed by a second showing on Friday 9th November and a third and final showing on Saturday 10th November at 8:00pm at the Drama Theatre Building 16. Schiller’s Mary Stuart talks about a political prisoner accused of extremism, incitement of war and masterminding assassination. The play tells a story of injustice and betrayal which depicts the struggle of power between, Mary Queen of Scots and her cousin, Elizabeth I. Dr. Khalid Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara said, “Mary Stuart is an incredible piece of art, it has previously played to sell-out houses and we are proud to present the revival of the tour here at Katara. We are delighted to offer Qatari residents a piece of classic British theatre which seeks to provide an understanding of British history. Mary Stuart is a testimonial of Katara’s commitment to promote cultural awareness through arts, educating and entertaining whilst building cultural bridges.” Set design for the production of Mary Stuart is minimalist which is complimented by costumes which represent Elizabethan England. The use of projections give the action of the play an immediate, breaking news quality that continues to thrill audiences with its refreshing take on Schiller’s masterpiece. An adaptation of Mary Stuart was staged at the New Diorama Theatre in London in early 2012 by The Faction Theater Company, as part of a repertory season. The production was the third Schiller play translated and adapted by Daniel Millar and Mark Leipacher and staged by the company. Tickets for the show are available at Virgin Megastores at Landmark and Villagio as well as online at www.katara.net. ILQ NEWS
