Katara yet again showcases the best of local arts, music and handicrafts
Doha, March 4th, 2012: Katara, the Cultural Village celebrates the first Qatari Sculptors Exhibition, which is open to public till 14th March at the Katara Art Center, building 5.
The exhibition is a result of the Sculpture Workshops led by acclaimed Saudi artist Ali Al Tekhis who assisted ten Qatari artists in building stone sculptures. Al Tekhis, a renowned sculptor shared his artistic abilities with the participants to create 11 artworks using limestone from Saudi Arabia.
Katara’s president, Abdulrahman Al Khulaifi commented on the occasion, “Since opening, Katara has provided a platform to many aspiring artists, musician and performers. This is another testimonial of our commitment to nurturing local talents, demonstrating the importance of educating and entertaining whilst building cultural bridges. We are proud to host such an exhibition, showcasing the work of talented Qataris and will continue to endorse such rewarding initiatives.”
All the artworks have been added to the Katara Art Collection and are now a part of the Katara Cultural Village Foundation Art Catalogue, a growing body of work acquired directly from Qatari artists.
