The first phase of the Karwa City, now under construction in Mesaimeer, would be ready in the first quarter of 2010. Informing this yesterday, Mowasalat business development director Ahmed al-Ansari said work is going on at a very fast pace and the city’s first phase would be fully commissioned on schedule. The city, one of the biggest facilities of its kind in the region, spread out in an area of approximately 29 square kilometres. Al-Ansari said the company currently operates 1271 buses for the Qatar schools. The Higher Education Council has sought additional requirements for students and another 200 buses would be added to it in coming months, he said. The official said the company’s fleet strength has gone up to 260 now and it is operating at least 200 buses daily. Al-Ansari said at least 300 delegates representing various transport companies, regulatory authorities, vehicle manufacturers, government departments, local civic bodies and planning forums in the region would participate in the three-day UITP (International Association of Public Transport) 2nd Middle East and North Africa (Mena) Congress starting in Doha on October 25. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=320243&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
