Karaoke talent competition ‘Sheraton’s Got Talent’ is set to begin on November 24 at the Sheraton Resort & Convention Hotel in West Bay. The evening’s proceeds will be donated to the global children’s charity Unicef. As sponsor of the event, Etihad has donated a pair of prizes for the overall winner and runner-up. Ahmed al-Halyan, Qatar country manager for Etihad Airways said: “The upcoming event comes on the back of the success of last year’s event where funds were sent to Unicef to assist the charity’s Schools For Africa project in South Africa. Etihad was approached to sponsor the event this year and we were keen to get involved in such a good cause. “This year, the night’s proceeds will again be channelled through Unicef as part of its programme to raise funds for vital equipment and educational materials for 58 schools in Romania and Pakistan. We’re pleased to partner with Starwood and Sheraton for this worthy cause.” Steven Kalczynski, general manager of Sheraton Doha, said: “We certainly appreciate this unique partnership between Etihad and the Sheraton Doha. Unicef and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and their guests to date have raised over $22mn to support life-saving programmes for children throughout the world.” Anyone wishing to take part in the Karaoke event needs to be an expatriate residing in Doha and aged over 21. The overall winner will receive a round-trip flight with Etihad Airways to any of the 86 destinations. In addition, Starwood will provide a weekend stay for two people at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort and Towers in Dubai. The second prize winner will receive a flight with Etihad Airways from Doha to Abu Dhabi and back and, while in the capital of the UAE, a weekend stay for two people at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort.
