KAHRAMAA marks Earth Hour

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" celebrated Saturday evening the "Earth Hour", by switching-off lights in its various buildings for an hour between 8:30 and 9:30 PM.

On the occasion, KAHRAMAA President Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said: "Earth Hour comes this year in exceptional circumstances with the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world, and with concerted efforts to combat this virus and emphasize the need to stay at home, I invite everyone to participate in the Earth Hour initiative to show solidarity in the face of climate change and global warming, through turning-off lights and unnecessary electrical appliances for one hour as a symbolic act to increase awareness of the importance of rationalizing energy consumption to conserve natural resources and preserve the environment". He added that KAHRAMAA's participation in this initiative reflects its commitment towards the earth to rationalize consumption, preserve the environment and reduce carbon emissions, as a national responsibility and a moral obligation.

KAHRAMAA said that they are keen to mark the Earth Hour and participate in this global event with the aim of spreading awareness about how to preserve the planet and face the dangers threatening it; and increase awareness of the importance of energy saving and rationalization of consumption to become an integral part of daily life style, as a joint and irreplaceable responsibility for the conservation of resources, in a way that ensures the achievement of the objectives of the national program for rationalization and energy efficiency "TARSHEED" and reducing carbon emissions, to realize sustainable development according to the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" had earlier invited all members of society and various sectors in the State of Qatar to participate in this initiative and carry out this symbolic action by switching-off all unnecessary lights and electrical appliances to be part of the event.
