On Sunday, January 29, 2017, history was made at the Doha Golf Club during the 20th Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. This prestigious tournament hosted many of the world’s top golfers, but in the end, only one man walked away victorious – Jeunghun Wang.

After entering the final round with a three-stroke lead, Wang left a birdie putt inches short on the 72nd hole, forcing a three-way playoff. Wang was joined by Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren and South Africa’s Jaco van Zyl who all finished tied at 16 under par.

According to PGA, “South Korea's Jeunghun Wang rolled in a 3-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to win the Qatar Masters… clinching his third title on the European Tour” during his début appearance in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Wang, age 21, who was the youngest player in the 2016 Olympic Men’s Golf Tournament in Brazil, has now become the third youngest player in European Tour history to win their first three titles after Italy’s Matteo Manassero (age 19) and Spain's Seve Ballesteros (age 20). Also, with the CBQ Masters being his 29th official event, Wang is now the quickest player to win his first three events since Tiger Woods, who won in 12 official events.

Wang, who did not expect to win this week, stated, “I’m so happy. I’m so excited. This is the biggest tournament I’ve won. I got a lot of power from my fans. They really gave me a lot of power to win.”

In a statement from CBQ Masters press release, “After starting the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters as World Number 60, Wang will now become the youngest player in the top 50 and give himself the chance to play in the Masters Tournament and also other majors if he can maintain his ranking.”

In response, Wang said of the Masters, “That’s my dream, dream tournament.” With an incredible win in Doha, the future for Jeunghun Wang looks big and bright!

The European Tour now moves to Dubai for the Desert Classic, which is the third and final leg of the Tour’s Desert Swing. With Wang’s Qatar Masters’ win moving him to second in the Race to Dubai Rankings, will he be as successful in Dubai as he was in Doha?
