Kenjiro Monji, Ambassador of Japan, donated 70 Japan related books including Japanese language textbooks to the Qatar Eastern Language Centre (QELC) yesterday. The book donation ceremony started with an opening remarks by Dr Nasser Abdulghani, Chairman of the Qatar Eastern Language Centre and Managing Director of Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. He expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the book donation to the QELC and wished further cooperation between the Embassy and the Centre. Ambassador Monji said in his following speech that it is very timely that the donation takes place in 2012, the 40th anniversary year of Japan-Qatar diplomatic relations and the Embassy of Japan has been enjoying good cooperative relations with QELC through organizing many activities such as a Japanese speech contest. He congratulated the wonderful performance of the QELC students at the contest. “From the beginning of the year, the Embassy of Japan and the Qatari side have organised many cultural events under the project “Qatar Japan 2012” and people in Qatar will be able to enjoy Japan and its culture¸ as many more events will follow, including the last screening of monthly Japanese Cinema Showcase at the end of September, Japanese Musical Instruments performance and Japanese Popular Theater performance in October, Japanese Films at Doha Tribeca Film Festival in November and the participation to the Doha International Book Fair as a guest of honour in December in which the Embassy will bring to Qatar a lot of Japanese culture,” he added.
