The Japanese embassy has opened a book of condolence for the earthquake and tsunami victims. The book can be signed on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 2pm at the Consular Affairs Section. Ambassador Kenjiro Monji yesterday, on behalf of the government and people of Japan, extended gratitude for sympathies and condolences received from many people in Qatar. The envoy recalled that HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani sent cables of condolences to the Emperor of Japan. Qatar has also offered to send an emergency relief team and provide relief supplies. “The challenge to reconstruct the nation will be enormous. Yet, with the help of our friends around the world, I believe that Japan and Japanese people will be able to overcome this national crisis, as has been the case in the past,” Monji said. The embassy is also accepting cash donations in Qatari Riyal or US dollars. The donations will be remitted by the embassy to the Japanese Red Cross Society for the assistance to the victims and sufferers of Tohoku Pacific Earthquake. Donations will be received at the Consular Affairs Section, Sunday to Thursday from 8am to 3pm. Donors should bring their passport or ID and park their cars across the road in the open space opposite the embassy. The embassy is also preparing for the establishment of its special bank account for receiving donations. Ambassador Monji said the most prompt way to send the donation is through direct transfer to the Japanese Red Cross Society. If donors wish their contribution to be used for the assistance to the victims they should be sent to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Ginza Branch, account number 8047670 (Ordinary Account), SWIFT Code: SMBC JP JT, Payee Name: The Japanese Red Cross Society, Payee Address: 1-1-3 Shiba-Daimon Minato-ku, Tokyo JAPAN. If donors wish their contributions to be used for the relief activity by the Japanese Red Cross Society they should be sent to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Ginza branch, account number 8047705 (Ordinary Account), SWIFT Code: SMBC JP JT, Payee Name: The Japanese Red Cross Society, Payee Address: 1-1-3 Shiba-Daimon Minato-ku, Tokyo JAPAN. If donors need receipt, they should state so clearly in the comment section of the bank transfer order.
