LNG Japan Corporation (LNG Japan) recently signed an agreement with Qatar University (QU) to provide financial support until 2016 for the Training Centre for Early Childhood Teachers (TCECT) project at the institution’s Early Childhood Center (ECC).
The ECC was established in 2007 to promote best practices and international standards in teaching and learning using new technologies to support and enrich early learning, train early childhood educators and professionals to meet international standards, as well as to initiate research projects in the field.
Signing the agreement were Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, President and CEO of LNG Japan Corporation Yasunori Takagi, and QU President Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad in the presence of senior representatives from QU, LNG Japan, RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) and education and energy sectors.
“This significant commitment to the long-term development of Qatar, is another milestone in our relationship with LNG Japan, which has consistently supported the Social and Human Development pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Dr Al Sada.
Prof Al Misnad said: “We very much welcome LNG Japan’s generous contribution to advance the initiatives of the centre which will have a lasting impact on teachers and young children.”
LNG Japan has had a long term relationship with Qatar, primarily in the oil and gas industry. In 1997, the corporation acquired a three percent equity interest in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (RL). RasGas acts as the operating company for and on behalf of RL.
“Over the past couple of decades of doing business with energy companies in Qatar, we have witnessed the country’s steady growth and emphasis on building a knowledge-based society. We sincerely believe that our contribution to this training centre will deliver further prosperity for Qatar and strengthen bonds between the citizens of Qatar and Japan,” said Takagi.
The signing took place at the RasGas Headquarters in Doha.
