The Italian delegation, headed by Tourism Under-secretary Michela Vittoria Brambilla, met with the chairman of the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (QTEA) during their visit here. Bilateral cooperation in tourism between Qatar and Italy were discussed by Brambilla and Ahmed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, QTEA chairman. The ministerial delegation was specifically briefed on Qatar’s new strategy and identity for tourism and exhibitions. The meeting also covered topics such as cooperation in training and expertise as well as investments in the tourism sector. Several projects to be implemented in both countries were discussed, such as promoting friendly matches between football teams from both countries and an Italian Exhibition in Qatar to promote the wide range of high-quality Italian products. Brambilla, during a press conference at Doha Sheraton prior to her departure, was particularly interested in Qatar’s achievements to attract Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) travellers, as Italy is seeking to enhance its conferences and meetings skills. Brambilla invited Al Nuaimi for an official visit to Italy to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for further cooperation between the two countries. Accompanied by Al Nuaimi, Brambilla attended “Italy meets Qatar,” a seminar on the Italian Tourist Industry. Speaking in front of a large audience of Italian and Qatari businessmen, she reiterated Italy’s desire for further cooperation between the two countries in tourism. Praising the quality of accommodation and transportation in Qatar, she described the Italian tourism industry as complimentary to Qatari hospitality. The Minister also highlighted Italy’s knowledge-based services in this sector and offered Italy’s services to the Qatari business community. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2009&file=Local_News200902054397.xml
