The State of Qatar has condemned Israel’s suspension of cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and its failure to comply with the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, in a flagrant defiance of all international resolutions, saying such a position will negatively affect the credibility and effectiveness of the Human Rights Council as reported by Qatar Chronicle. This came in a speech delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar at the United Nations in Geneva Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani before the twenty-second session of the Human Rights Council, held in Geneva during the period from 25 February to 22 March under item No. 2 related to the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as reported by Qatar Chronicle. Sheikha Alia said in the shadow of the continued and increasing Israeli violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories during 2012, we hoped that the report of the High Commissioner would addresses this matter clearly. She noted that the delegation of the State of Qatar agreed with the contents of the report that the inability of the international community to take a unified and decisive stance towards many crises, including the conflict in Syria, has complicated and protracted violence and suffering and increased the systematic and grave violation of human rights, as well as the spread of impunity from accountability and punishment. And praised her happiness efforts OHCHR in the face of all forms of discrimination and continued support to enhance the protection of human rights of the elderly, especially OEWG on the human rights of the elderly, which aims by General Assembly resolution 65/182 to strengthen the protection of human rights of the elderly by considering the existing international framework of human rights of the elderly.
