The present intersection between Al Otouriya and Al Jamaliya roads on the country’s western side will be temporarily closed along with a section of a road running approximately 4km on the direction towards Al Jamaliya.
Traffic will be diverted for approximately six months starting from tomorrow (November 20) to a temporary roundabout and a road that have been built adjacent to the closed road (as shown in the map).
The diversion is needed to allow the demolition of the existing road and the construction of a new dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction.
The new road which is part of Al Jamaliya-Al Otouriya-Al Sheehaniya Expressway project will provide permanent features, namely a permanent roundabout, a median island in addition to pedestrian and cycle paths.
Through the works at Al Jamaliya, Al Otouriya and Al Shahaniya it is aimed to enhance the traffic capacity and road safety in the entire area.
The work which is part of the ambitious Expressway project also includes a wide range of construction activities to develop the area’s infrastructure, install intelligent transport systems besides designing of a comprehensive drainage system.
