The Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (QMIC) has won the regional award for Information Technology in the Middle East and North Africa for its Intelligent Dispatch System, a part of its Masarak Solution, at the International Public Transport and Mobility Congress in Geneva. The 60th Biennial World Congress of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), held between May 26 and 29, saw strong participation from a number of leading Qatari entities including top officials from QMIC. Masarak is an intelligent platform and integrated suite of services developed by QMIC and jointly owned with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya, executive director and CEO of QMIC, who received the award on behalf of QMIC and the Masarak teams, expressed pride in receiving the honour from a very prestigious international body like the UITP. “This is a clear testament to the progress we made in developing locally engineered innovations that will have a regional impact and value in the important area of intelligent public transport systems and services. We want to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning for jointly working with QMIC for the development and realisation of Masarak.” Abdulaziz al-Khal, director of Masarak said: “This award represents a great recognition for the value and relevance of our comprehensive Masarak platform and services, in general, and for our integrated and intelligent advanced dispatching system, in particular.” Omar Bondogji, head of marketing and business development at QMIC said: “This will surely help us position Masarak solution and services as a leading integrated mobility platform that will meet the evolving needs of the region in the areas of intelligent transport, logistics management, and road safety.” Masarak is a comprehensive intelligent platform and an integrated suite of Intelligent Transport, Logistics Management, and Road Safety services and applications fully developed in Qatar and optimised for serving the needs of different sectors in Qatar and the region. Currently Masarak is being utilised by a number of leading entities in Qatar. The UITP congress was launched this year under the slogan “Grow with Public Transport” to raise awareness and to promote the public transportation to all government authorities, public transport companies, and third party solution providers who play a role in the public transportation. Over 2,000 delegates, dignitaries, policy makers, and top officials from many international transport companies and world government agencies attended the congress this year. During the UITP congress, hundreds of experts in the field of public transportation and mobility delivered presentations on the progress that been made in public transportation, to tackle the pressing issues, to provide visibility on successful programmes and campaigns in promoting public transportation and to educate the audience on latest technologies and innovations in this field. The QMIC is an applied research and development centre founded by Qatar University in collaboration with and at the Qatar Science & Technology Park to leverage the use of emerging mobility technologies and lifestyle in creating and deploying intelligent solutions and smart applications for use in a number of markets including Transportation, Road Safety, Environment, and Healthcare.
