InterCon plans three-day Octoberfest

THE InterContinental Hotel will host the threeday Octoberfest celebration featuring Bavarian band ‘X’elchten’ after the Holy Month of Ramadan. There will also be a repeat performance by Buddha Bar Paris’ DJ Ravin in September Speaking to Qatar Tribune, InterContinental General Manager Hafidh al Busaidy said the establishment, in collaboration with the Thai embassy, will also stage a fashion event and cultural show to mark the Loy Krathong Thai Festival in October. “We are expecting to have a very busy last quarter of the year. We are trying to talk with different partners in the industry to bring in the biggest stars. So far, the big events we have hosted include the Bryan Adams concert and the ones featuring Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta and more. We also have world-class DJ Paul Mendez as the resident DJ for Lava Lounge. We intend to offer more quality entertainment in the future,” al Busaidy said. He added that room renovation and outlet expansion plans were also part of the programmes. According to him, the extension of the Café was likely to be finished before the end of the year. DJ Ravin will be staging his second gig in the country at the Lava Lounge on September 22 and 23. Entrance fee to the event is QR150 for male and QR50 for female. From September 7, the ‘Biggest Ladies Night’ will kick off featuring DJ Paul Mendez of Lava Lounge and DJ Shadi of Paloma. The regular Wednesday treat at InterContinental will open the centre door between the two outlets, giving a unique clubbing experience. The Octoberfest will be from October 5 to 7. For the eighth running year, the InterContinental will celebrate the famous Bavarian festival. Oktoberfest 2011 will feature the best traditional brew house in Munich along with exquisite culinary highlights prepared by German chefs. Live entertainment by the Bavarian Band “X’elchten” will also be part of the programme. The event will be sponsored by Qatar Airways. Tickets for the event will cost QR220, inclusive of German buffet dinner. The Qatar Tennis Federation and InterContinental Tennis Open is slated for October 17 to 31. The tournament is open to men’s and women’s singles and doubles categories, men’s veterans’ singles and doubles, mixed doubles as well as boys and girl’s under 18, 14, 12 and 10 age groupings. Last date of entry will be September 19. The draw will be held on September 26 at the Khalifa Tennis Complex. From October 26 to 28, the hotel will celebrate the Loy Krathong Thai Festival.
