INJAZ Qatar Launches Innovation Camp at Youth Change Everything Conference

Another first for INJAZ Qatar – Innovation Camp (I Camp) delivered to 170 students Doha, March 4th, 2012: As part of its ongoing commitment to motivating, inspiring and developing Qatar’s youth, INJAZ Qatar, a non-profit organization and affiliate of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide, has launched its inaugural ‘Innovation Camp’ (I Camp) at the Youth Change Everything Conference at Carnegie Mellon University- Qatar (CMU-Q) on Saturday March 3rd 2012. The conference, opened by Shadi Zubeidi, Managing Director, Head of Corporate Finance, Qatar First Investment Bank, Aysha Al Mudehki, Executive Director, INJAZ Qatar and Mohamed Farid, CEO of the Youth Company, was attended by over 200 students from several independent secondary schools as well as private schools. During the conference, 17 corporate volunteers delivered the I-Camp workshop which encourages students – the future business leaders of Qatar, to showcase their innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities while solving a business challenge. Aysha Al Mudehki, Executive Director, INJAZ Qatar commented, “The I Camp launch was a great success and we would like to thank The Youth Company as well as our board members QFIB and CMU-Q for their support on this initiative. We are grateful to our corporate volunteers from Arab Engineering Bureau, Boeing, Emcor Facilities Services, HSBC, Manzili, Nasser Bin Khaled, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, QFIB, QFCA, Hill + Knowlton Strategies, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Multimedia Group, Silatech and Yashfeen. With their expertise we were able to initiate I Camp introducing students to innovation, critical thinking, and business concepts, empowering them with the confidence, skills and ambition they need to succeed.” “Volunteering for Innovation Camp was a very rewarding experience,” said Maryam Alsubaiey, Director of Creation at Qatar Multimedia Group, “I am proud to be part of an event that is certain to have such a positive impact on all participants. The programme is a good example of how INJAZ Qatar is instrumental in equipping Qatar's younger generations with the right skills to become successful entrepreneurial leaders of the future." Concluded Alsubaiey. During the session, students were organized into 17 teams that worked collaboratively to address the business challenge - “Come up with a product or service that will encourage young people in Qatar to engage more in physical activity on a daily basis.” Each team, mentored by a corporate volunteer was given access to a range of tools and asked to come up with creative ideas. Students prepared a business plan that was pitched to a panel of judges for the most creative idea. Ideas included the Walky Win, a device which measures distance and calories, the E Tramp, which links a trampoline to an online device and the Youth Fun Hub. This half-day program, which is delivered in both English and Arabic to secondary Grades students, will be run again in Spring 2012.
