Amid a huge rush for admissions, a new Indian school will open its doors to students on April 28. The Pearl School, which will follow the Indian CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) curriculum, is the tenth Indian school in Qatar and will initially offer kindergarten classes. Admissions are now open. The school is managed by the Qatar-based Round Square Foundation, which also plans to open a kindergarten and an international school, both following British curriculum, in September this year. The institutions, affiliated to the UK-based Cardiff University, will be named Cardiff International Kindergarten and Cardiff International School. Pearl School claims to be the first private school in the country to have a student-tracking system in school buses, which is expected to be deployed in one or two months. The school will initially function in a rented building in West Bay but will move to the Rowda area by mid-May, principal Manjari Recriwal, said yesterday. “ We have rented the premises in Rowda area that was earlier occupied by the DPS Modern Indian School. We expect to start the classes next Sunday with 40 to 50 students. We have been receiving a lot of calls from parents seeking admission for their children,” said Recriwal. She said many parents wanted their children to be admitted in the higher classes. “We will begin with KG this year and grades up to five will be added in the next academic year. However, we will start registering students for the next academic year in June,” she said. She said a smart student- tracking system in school buses and an interactive electronic network for parents will be introduced in one or two months after the opening of the school. “With introduction of the child-tracking system, parents will get a text message in 15 minutes after the student arrives in school. We are also launching an interactive website that will give parents full and real time information about the status of the child,” said Recriwal. For example, if the student falls sick in school, the school nurse will communicate with the parents through the website and update them about his or her health. “Every Thursday, the parents will get an assessment about the child’s performance in the school during that week,” said Recriwal. The tuition fee for KG classes has been fixed at QR8,000 per year that can be paid in three terms. There will be an additional fee for transportation, which has not been fixed yet, said the principal. The student-teacher ratio in the school will be two teachers for 20 students, which is not followed by any of the other Indian schools in the country, she claimed. “We will incorporate British teaching methods into the Indian system. We have teachers experienced both in the Indian and international systems,” said Recriwal. School chairman Hamad Mubarak AI Kaabi and vice chairman K K Ashraf were also present at the press conference, along with other senior officials. Source : Qatar Chronicle
