With a gradual rise in temperatures, the Supreme Education Council has asked Independent schools to reschedule their working hours from June 1.

All the schools should close by 12 noon, about one-and-a-half hours earlier than now. The SEC yesterday issued a circular to Independent schools in this regard, Al Sharq reported.

The new schedule will apply only to students. Teachers and other staff will be required to work as usual. Currently, most schools function from 7 am to 1.30 pm.

The schools have also been asked to reschedule their teaching hours in a way that does not affect the core subjects.

Sources from some private schools said they had not received any instructions from the SEC regarding summer working hours.

“It is too early to change the timings. We may take a decision next month,” said the principal of an Indian school.

All Independent and private schools will close for summer holidays by the end of June or in early July.
