The Criminal Court has sentenced a suspect with an imprisonment of 5 years, a fine of QR 300,000 as he was found in possession of 2 kg of a narcotic substance hidden in the edges of a refrigerator during a customs inspection at Hamad International Airport.
The accused arrived with a carton and two bags and upon inspection, the authorities found a fibre-optic refrigerator inside the carton. An X-ray revealed the presence of the substance, hidden in its edges. The authorities confiscated the drugs and handed over the suspect and the seizures to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
A forensic laboratory report confirmed that the white crystalline substance that was found was activated methamphetamine, a substance included in the anti-drug law. The accused had stated that he had agreed with someone in his country to deliver the refrigerator in Qatar and bear the travel costs, tickets, accommodation and cost of the visa and denied knowing that he was carrying narcotics. The accused was then appointed with a lawyer. After hearing the testimony of the customs inspector, the court gave its sentence.
