iLoveQatar.net (ILQ) and community members joined together to do something in order to show support to Japan. Their goal was to do something that not only helped raise funds to donate to Japan, but also something that could unite Qatar and Japan as well. The website printed 5 unique images on tshirts in Japanese and Arabic. The shirts had the words Hope, Courage, Love, Peace, and Happiness. Anri Taki (Japanese) helped to organize the event along with the many different volunteers that came from different countries including Philippines, America, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhistan and Qatar. It was a beautiful gesture that showed that many countries were there for Japan. ILQ quickly gathered the support of mall managements as well. Villaggio, Landmark, and Hyatt Plaza offered space to help with ILQ's mission. Khalifa Saleh Haroon (Qatari, 27), founder of iLoveQatar.net said, "It was such a heart-warming feeling seeing everyone volunteer their help and then seeing the public buy these t-shirts to help out Japan. It's the least we can do for the country that's given us Sushi, Anime, Games, Robots, and of course Land Cruisers!" Anri Taki was so proud of the fact that children also ran to the booths to help show appreciation to Japan. On the 3rd of May, 2011, ILQ took the money they made selling t-shirts (the total amount was QR16,000) and met up with the Japanese Ambassador to Qatar to not only make a donation to the relief efforts, but to give the embassy an idea of how much people in Qatar cared. The Japanese ambassador to Qatar, Kenjiro Monji, mentioned that he was grateful for the fact that HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani made a great contribution to Japan's reconstruction efforts following the earthquake and was now also honored to have received a further donation from the community. Additional information: iLoveQatar.net (ILQ) is one of Qatar's most popular online communities that provides update events and information as well as various forums for the community to gather. What makes ILQ unique is that the website puts aside a percentage of revenue generated to support the community as well as charitable causes. ILQ News
