Doha Qatar, 18 January 2015: InterContinental Doha The City is pleased to announce that Hwang Pan Asian restaurant is now open for lunch Sunday through Thursday from 12 noon to 15:00 offering a special bento box menu starting at just QAR 75. Hwang’s normal a la carte and beverage menu also will be available during lunch, which includes a diverse selection of cuisine from eight different Asian countries as well as Hwang's signature shabu-shabu cooked at the table in an authentic hot pot.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the quality cuisine of Hwang to daytime diners in the restaurant’s authentic Pan Asian atmosphere that’s perfect for gathering with business colleagues, friends and family,” said Pascal Eggerstedt, General Manager. “I think that many people perceive having lunch at a five-star hotel as an expensive and lengthy affair. With the bento box concept, we are changing that by offering quick service and value for money along with a wide variety of Far Eastern dishes from which to choose.”

Hwang’s new lunch menu enables diners to choose their favourite options from three starters, three main courses and three desserts. The menu, which changes every two weeks, includes items such as Thai vegetable salad, chili shrimp, chicken teriyaki and Asian-style wok chicken as well as banana tempura and pandan crème brule for dessert. Each bento box also includes a choice of rice or noodles. The different courses are arranged in separate compartments and served in a beautifully crafted wooden lacquered bento box.

The history of the bento box traces back to the 8th century when it was customary for Japanese people to carry dried rice, also known as onigiri, in bags, as the dried rice could easily be eaten later as is or after adding hot or cold water. The word "bento" originates from a Southern Song Dynasty slag term meaning “convenient.”

Located on the first floor of InterContinental Doha The City, Hwang is also open for dinner from 18:00 to 23:00 Sunday through Friday. For reservations and enquiries, call +974 4015 8888 or email [email protected]. Also visit our website at
