Runners have only one day left to sign up for the first Qtel Marathon, which will be held on Saturday to promote athletics and to raise money for charities. Adult runners can register for the Half Marathon (21.1km) or the 10km Run, while those under 18 years can register for the 1km Youth Run. Registration closes tomorrow. Hundreds of professional and amateur runners, corporate teams, students and families have already registered for the races, which will take place at 7am. The race will start on the Doha Corniche and end at the Museum of Islamic Art, after looping around the Sheraton Roundabout. Participants can choose to walk, run or jog the course, as the emphasis is on healthy lifestyles rather than winning. For registration and more information, visit http://www.qtel.qa/en/QtelMarathon. Participants can also register at Qtel retail shops in Al Saad, City Center, Landmark, Villaggio and Hyatt Plaza Mall. All proceeds from the entry fees — QR50 for adults, QR30 for people below 18 — will be donated to charities in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Government authorities will close the Corniche to traffic for several hours, and Qtel is providing two water stations and two sets of toilets. The annual Qtel Marathon is part of Qtel’s corporate social responsibility in promoting health and fitness, as the company plans to expand the races to a full marathon in 2014. The Peninsula
