After Fast-a-thon 2011, a charity event to help the people of Somalia, Hyatt Plaza shopping mall plans to launch an extensive campaign to bring the society together and lend a helping hand to the victims of the fatal drought in Somalia. The campaign is organized in cooperation with The Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and with the support of The Youth Company (TYC) in Qatar. The campaign aims to encourage people to donate generously through the donation boxes placed in Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall.
"The Youth Company believes it is necessary that every youth should not only participate in being a global citizen but also an active citizen, that's why The Youth Company partnered with Hyatt plaza to help the people of Somalia. TYC is always there to help the people in need." said Mr. Mohamed Farid, CEO, The Youth Company.
“During this holy month of sacrifice and philanthropy, Hyatt Plaza would like to channelize the contributions from different sections of society towards supporting the people of Somalia in their struggle against starvation.” said Mr. Feroz Moideen, General Manager, Hyatt Plaza. The fund collection will run up till Eid al Fitr.
A photo exhibition is also organized inside Hyatt Plaza to make people aware of the grim situation in Somalia. “We hope that our humble efforts will provide some relief to the starving children and the desperate people of Somalia.” said Ayed al-Qahtani, Chairman, RAF.
More than 2000 people are dying every day in Somalia, as the country experiences its worst drought in decades. The prevailing famine threatens to starve more than eleven million people to death. “The situation in Somalia is extremely miserable and disheartening. We believe we should make a conscious effort to help them” said Mr. S.M Naseem, Marketing Consultant, Hyatt Plaza.”We have placed donation boxes in our mall and Hyatt Plaza looks forward to the contributions from everyone to make a significant difference to the people of Somalia.”
Previously, Hyatt Plaza organized Fast-a-thon 2011, an event to facilitate the non-Muslims to come forward and fast, in an attempt to help the Somalian people. More than 300 people from 19 countries came forward to support the cause and QR 200 was donated by RAF, on behalf of each individual to the people of Somalia. 5 of the individuals also volunteered to take part in Fast-a-thon and committed to fast everyday for the remaining duration of Ramadan. For each day fasted, RAF will make a donation of QR 100 to Somalia on behalf of each one of them.
The donation counters are placed at gate number 5, near Jungle Zone inside Hyatt Plaza. People can also make their donations directly to RAF through different donation channels including SMS and online transfer to the RAF bank account.
