How to renew your vehicle registration (Istimara) in Qatar

You are required to renew your vehicle registrations every year and in order to do so, you must meet the following requirements:

The Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior handles all matters concerning licensing and traffic violations. You can visit the General Directorate of Traffic Headquarters at Madinat Khalifa or any of the Traffic Service Centers.

  • Bring your car along with its original registration to the Ministry of Interior’s Traffic Department.
  • Provide proof of successful vehicle inspection from Woqod (FAHES).
  • Provide proof of car insurance, which should be valid for at least one year for all vehicles, or more than one year for new vehicles.
  • Pay the appropriate fee via debit or credit card.
  • Once you have paid the fee, your new Istimara will be handed over to you.

Once the vehicle passed the technical inspection and insurance of the vehicle is issued, vehicle registration (Istimara) renewal can also be done electronically via Metrash2 and the MoI website. This service enables vehicle owners to get the card delivered to a given address or collect it from any Traffic Department center.

  • Log in to the Metrash2 app.
  • Click on 'Traffic'
  • Next, click on 'Vehicle Service'.
  • Then click on 'Renew Vehicle Registration'.
  • Enter vehicle plate number.
  • Select if private, government, taxi, etc then press 'Next'.
  • Choose the new card registration’s delivery option: by mail courier via Qatar Post or collect at the Traffic Department.
  • Pay the appropriate fee and print/save the receipt.
    • If you select Q-Post, there will be an extra charge of QR 20 for delivery.
