At least 164 people have died in devastating monsoon floods in India's southern state of Kerala, the worst in almost a century. Rescuers battled torrential rains to save residents, with nearly 223,000 left homeless, reported BBC.

Yesterday (August 16, 2018) we were told Cochin Airport was closed till Sunday due to flooded runway. As Kerala's flood crisis seems to be getting worse and, the airport will remain closed until at least August 26, authorities said.

At least 23 bridges have collapsed, more than 211 landslides have been reported and about 10,000 kilometers of roads have been destroyed. Over 20,000 houses have been damaged, 180,000 farmers are affected and total damages are estimated at about 83.2 billion rupees ($1.2 billion), according to an update on the website of the Kerala chief minister’s distress relief fund.
