The Ministry of Labour plans to have a hotline to enable workers to complain if an employer fails to comply with summer work timings that will be applicable at open workplaces from June 15 to August 31. Workers engaged on construction sites and other open places are not allowed to put in more than five hours in the morning, and work must stop at 11.30 am from June 15 until August 31. They can resume work only at or after 3pm in the harsh weather, when day temperatures and humidity levels soar, putting site workers at risk of heat stress and heat stroke. According to local Arabic daily Al Raya, the hotline will ensure that employers who flout summer work timing rules are taken to task.
