The Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking (QFCHT) has set up hotlines - 4669888 & 5643388 - for receiving complaints from victims of human trafficking. The hotlines will also help QFCHT to communicate with vulnerable categories and the public in general. Complaints and inquiries will be received throughout the day from both residents and expatriates. The initiative is part of QFCHT’s plan to create a society free from human trafficking, said a press statement issued yesterday. The hotlines are available in Arabic and English. In the case of other languages, interpreters will be provided when necessary. The statement noted that this step is in accordance with the United Nations Protocol to prevent, combat and punish trafficking in people, including women and children. The mechanism of extending assistance to victims is by providing temporary accommodation at The Qatar House for Lodging and Humanitarian Care. The foundation keeps identity and whereabouts of victims as closely guarded secret. The foundation also helps the victims to file compensation claims. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2009&file=Local_News200903165377.xml
