The psychiatry department at Rumailah Hospital will launch a dedicated 24-hour mental health hotline 66912020 on August 15 to provide guidance and access to mental health information to people in need of support, a hospital spokesperson said yesterday. Explaining the rationale behind the hotline, psychiatry department chairperson Dr Suhaila Ghuloum said: “A lot of people call different sections at the psychiatry department seeking information on mental health issues. We felt there was an urgent need to set up a dedicated phone line for people to speak to a trained professional and get appropriate information and guidance regarding the mental health treatments we offer and the procedures to be followed.” A senior psychiatric doctor will be on hand to answer (in both Arabic and English) and analyse, whether the caller needs psychiatry support or should be guided to other organisations more relevant to their needs.
