The Torch Doha is among the winning hotels of the esteemed International Hotel Awards in the 2013 Arabian regional competition. The honour is for new hotel construction and design in Qatar, The Torch Doha said in a statement. The Torch Doha competed against a number of hotels and resorts in Qatar to receive this recognition. Successful entrants have been invited to attend a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai today where the winning companies will find out their level of achievement. The top-scoring winners who will go on to compete in the International Hotel Awards global competition will be announced at the close of the evening. The Torch Doha general manager Gerhard Foltin said: “There is no greater satisfaction for our property than to be highly recognised in the new hotel construction and design category. We are proudly representing Qatar in the world hospitality scene as the premier venue for those who are searching for state-of-the-art accommodation with latest in-room technology and sporting and fitness facilities.” The Torch – member of The Leading Hotels of the World - is a flagship project situated in the heart of Doha’s Aspire Zone. It opened its doors to visitors in November 2011. The International Hotel Awards have 17 categories and up to three 5-star awards for each category are given at a national level before going on to compete at a regional level. In addition to categories for several types of specialty hotels and by hotel size, there are categories for hotel architecture, construction, interior design, marketing and website. The chairman of the judging panel is Sir David Michels, retired CEO of Hilton Hotels. Each hotel winner will receive either a Highly Commended or 5-star award. The 5-star winners will be placed under further examination and just one from each category will be selected to represent the Arabia region in the 2013 International Hotel Awards.
