OPE Qatar centre for children with special needs recently organised their annual sports day.
Held at the Doha Modern Indian School, the event witnessed children with special needs defy their physical and intellectual challenges to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship in front of parents, well wishers, and guests along with the members of HOPE advisory board.
The celebrations began with a march past where the children dressed in the colours of the Qatar national flag led by Shreya Srinath bearing the HOPE Qatar flag received a standing ovation from the audience. Like any other school, the students at HOPE pitted their might against each other in various events including running races, team relays, cycle races, and bowling. Contests were held in various age groups and the participants were cheered along by spectators and students.
Friendly contests including tug of war saw participation by mothers, teachers and students.
Ibrahim A Al Obaidli, Director -General Services at the Support Services Directorate of Qatar Foundation, the chief guest at the event, said that all students who participated were winners because they gave it their best despite the challenges.
