Of the total amount of waste generated by health-care activities, about 85% is general, non-hazardous waste, according to World Health Organization (WHO).

To achieve this goal, garbage containers have been placed in selected areas at HMC as part of the implementation phase of this four-phase program, patients and visitors can expect to find these innovative containers in all the facilities by the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, he added.

Al Khalifa concluded his statement by saying that the implementation of the idea of waste recycling in HMC and the implementation of the new waste disposal program does not depend only on employees, so we invite all members of our community are invited to help to achieve this goals related to reducing the amount of waste and placing it in appropriate containers, as we continue to roll out the new program at all HMC facilities.

New waste recycling containers have been installed in the facility's large and crowded sites, which include lobbies, reception desks, cafeterias, and areas designated for staff or visitors/patients. The new waste disposal system at HMC enables monitoring of the amount recycled while keeping records each month.

The pilot program is coupled with an educational campaign to instruct staff and visitors what can be recycled, how to use trash containers and participate in the programme.
