The first hip-hop and R&B open air festival in Doha is to take place tonight, with some of Germany’s top artistes performing at the Aspire Zone. Hip-hop artiste Massiv, songstress Bintia, MC Beirut, singer Kéyali Mayaga and Trak from the local music scene, as well as the internationally renowned DJ Desue and local breakdance crew “M-Deez” are all set to perform on the open air stage, a spokesman for the organisers said. The concert which is organised by the German embassy, THI Promotion and Urban Stars Night, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, is a free outdoor event for all ages and part of the embassy’s five-week-long cultural festival “German-Qatari Cultural Weeks”, taking place across Doha. Introducing the participating artistes, Michael Heller of the German embassy said that by bringing in artistes who were not originally German, “we wanted to show the intercultural face of Germany”. Massiv, an artiste of Palestinian origin, said that he would be performing his new album hits. He pointed out that it was the most honest of his albums, as the numbers were extracted from personal experiences. Bintia said that she would perform in Deutsch, however, people who cannot understand the language “would sense the feeling brought across by the music and the beat that can connect nations”. MC Beirut, introduced himself as an artiste of Lebanese origin. Bintia said she was half African-half German and DJ Desue, half Sudanese- half German.
