Hamad International Airport (HIA) witnessed huge rush of passengers yesterday as travellers wanted to reach their destinations to celebrate Eid Al Fitr with their family members.

Anticipating a heavy rush due to Eid, many were seen arriving at the airport much early.

“My flight is at 10pm but I arrived four hours early to avoid any delays due to heavy rush. I knew that there would be a long queue to check-in because of holidays,” said a passenger.

“A few years back I had arrived at the airport on time during Eid holidays but the security line was so long that I nearly missed my flight. Learning the lesson from that incident, now I always arrive at the airport quite early,” he added.

On Tuesday, HIA had advised passengers travelling during Eid Al Fitr holidays to arrive early to avoid any delays. It is expecting a peak in departing passenger traffic until July 20 and arriving passenger traffic from July 23 to 25.

“To ensure that passengers experience seamless and comfortable travel through the airport, HIA advices locally departing passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight departure time and that check-in will close 60 minutes prior to departure,” HIA said in a statement on Tuesday.

“To save time, Qatar Airways and many other airlines operating from HIA offer passengers online check-in,” it added.
