H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the country, participated in the International Conference for Aid and Support for Beirut and the Lebanese People, which was held in the French capital Paris at the invitation of His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron, President of the friendly French Republic, and His Excellency Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization. Through visual communication technology this afternoon, with the participation of a number of Excellencies, Highnesses and Excellencies, heads of states and governments and representatives of the participating countries.

His Highness the Amir delivered a speech on this occasion. The following is an unofficial translation of his speech:

In the Name of God, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the outset, I would like to express my sincere thanks to our dear friend Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France, and to the Secretary-General of the United Nations for their invitation to hold this important conference, which comes under very bad conditions that brotherly Lebanon is facing and faces many difficulties, and there is no doubt that the convening of this important conference reflects the determination. The international community must stand by Lebanon in order to overcome the disaster caused by the terrible explosion in the port of Beirut.

We are all aware of the magnitude of this catastrophe and the tragic and dire situation that the Lebanese people are experiencing due to this explosion, which claimed the lives of dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries, the massive destruction of buildings and properties, as well as the exacerbation of economic and financial challenges.

Lebanon cannot overcome this painful circumstance on its own. Confronting this crisis and its dangerous negative repercussions is dependent on strengthening national unity, unifying and intensifying governmental and societal efforts in Lebanon, and providing the international community with all necessary forms of assistance from relief to restoration and reconstruction.

The eyes of the brotherly Lebanese people are looking forward to the outcome of this conference, and we appeal to the international community with all its components, including states and organizations, to provide urgent financial assistance and contributions that help Lebanon overcome the painful conditions it is going through, and to leave dialogue on the internal issues of the Lebanese people, their awareness and living forces.

In this context, the State of Qatar, in response to the dictates of its humanitarian duty and the resulting solidarity bonds of brotherhood, and in fulfillment of its duty and commitment to support Lebanon, will announce in the coming days our contribution to the reconstruction of Beirut through the programs that will be approved. Meanwhile, people and institutions hastened to respond to the call of our brothers in Lebanon and provide them with urgent relief assistance, with a value of fifty million dollars as our contribution to the relief operations and alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people and overcome their extremely difficult circumstances. We also dispatched a team equipped with the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group and established hospitals Field.

In conclusion, I hope this conference will achieve its desired goals.
