We all have that big pile of books sitting on a corner in our shelves. Some we have read once or twice, while others are just gathering dust. If you think it is time to declutter them, and make way for a new “To Be Read” pile, below are listed some of the options you can choose from to donate books (or sell them for cash):
Behind the Blue Mosque in Katara, located near Building number 15, is a Red Telephone Booth. Everyone is welcome to donate books into this booth, or pick something you would like to browse through.
As per the Qatar National Website, they are keen to expand Qatar heritage related material such as rare books and manuscripts. More information on donating at Qatar National Library can be found here: https://www.qnl.qa/en/donate
Located at Duhail, Qatar Vet Centre has a little room where donated books are sold and the money goes onto feeding and rescuing their animals. For more information, you can contact them at 40161366.
With an ever-growing followership of 4800 members, Doha Books Sell, Swap or Buy - a dedicated Facebook group provides a platform to donate or sell books in Qatar. Fellow book enthusiasts will respond to you quickly to pick up their desired books.
Book Fairies hide books around different locations in Qatar to surprise and delight fellow readers. They were at Katara Cultural Village recently dropping off bestsellers, tied and sealed with ribbons with a personal message from the Book Fairy herself. You can find them on “The Book Fairies Qatar” Facebook page for more information about how to donate.
Reading is a beautiful habit albeit a slightly expensive one in Qatar if you wish to purchase books as new. Above methods of donating and delighting fellow book lovers are ways you can help out in your own little way since books can be reused indefinitely. Happy Reading!
