In a tweet, the Government Communications Office (GCO) on 24 July 2022, announced that the World Bank's Container Port Performance Index for 2021 announces Hamad Port as the world's third most efficient gateway globally.

As per the announcement:

The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence recently published the Container Port Performance Index for 2021 claiming Hamad Port as the world's third most efficient gateway.

The Container Port Performance Index analyses and evaluates 370 container ports worldwide based on a set of criteria. The port's rating is based on the number of times ships needed to stay in port to do loading and unloading work in 2021, a year that saw extraordinary traffic at numerous ports and a worldwide supply chain disruption.

In 2021, Hamad Port received:

  • 1,750 vessels.
  • Over 1.54 million TEUS.
  • Approximately 267.2 thousand tons of general cargo.
  • 45.5 thousand head of livestock.
  • Over 72.2 thousand units of cars and equipment.

King Abdullah Port and Salalah took up the first two positions, respectively.
