Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, will open its doors to prospective students this Saturday, November 14th at the HBKU Graduate Open House, held at the HBKU Student Center from 5pm to 7pm. Deans and faculty will speak about the wide variety of master’s and Ph.D. programs the university now offers and to answer any questions about studying at HBKU.
With the application cycle for the university’s fall 2016 intake now open, representatives from HBKU’s Student Recruitment department will discuss HBKU’s admissions process, plus there will be a chance to visit HBKU’s award-winning student housing villages.
The Open House will begin with a welcome address about the university by Dr. Khaled Ben Letaief, Provost of HBKU. Prospective students will then be given the opportunity to meet and engage with some of the university’s most prominent faculty members during specialized break-out sessions with HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering, Translation and Interpreting Institute, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Law School, Center for Executive Education, and new College of Public Health.
Those interested in scientific research will also be provided with more information about ways in which HBKU’s science-based degree programs involve collaboration with the university’s prestigious research institutes: Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI).
Dr. Letaief, HBKU Provost, observed: “HBKU’s programs offer students exceptional access to world-renowned faculty members who not only serve as teachers, but also mentors and advisors as students navigate their academic and career paths. With the aim of helping to build the higher education landscape to meet the needs of Qatar and the region, the university seeks to nurture students’ critical thinking and collaborative skills, encouraging interdisciplinary study and research as students train to become future experts and leaders in their fields.”
Nasser Al-Binali, Head of HBKU Student Recruitment, added: “HBKU is developing rapidly and growing each year, both in the number of academic programs offered and in the size and diversity of its student body.
“I would encourage individuals interested in taking their education to the next level to come to our Open House event to meet with deans and faculty and learn about the benefits of studying at HBKU.”
New for fall 2016 will be a Master of Public Health program, a comprehensive program created to develop participants’ understanding of the importance of protecting and promoting health within society. As with other HBKU programs, this new program encourages students to take their learning outside the classroom and requires students to complete an internship within the community during the course of their studies.
The university offers academic programs in a wide variety of areas including Sustainable Energy, Biological and Biomedical Science, Law, Public Health, Audiovisual Translation, Public Policy in Islam, Islamic Finance, and Urban Design and Architecture in Islamic Societies.
Qatari students are currently well represented across all programs, with 62% in the Public Policy in Islam master’s program, 72% in the JD law program, and 90% in the Executive Master in Energy and Resources program.
