This Saturday the ILQ realized there’s been something missing in our lives, a huge hole that needed to filled and thankfully we found it… Hakkasan’s delicious ‘Taste of Hakkasan’s lunch menu. We left happy and contented and itching to share their tempting menu with you.

I’m so glad the ILQ team received this invite as I’ve never tried Hakkasan before and now I finally get why everyone raves about it (even Doha’s top chefs) – it’s everything you want a restaurant to be. It has that busy vibrant buzz; the food is delicious and expertly presented; the team is really good at making sure that you enjoy your experience; and although it can seat a fair few people, the design and décor gives you a sense that you have privacy.

But back to the most important thing: what’s on offer and what would we recommend. We believe that the Saturday lunchtime deal is a well thought out menu. You get to choose one item from four courses and can enjoy unlimited water (the posh kind too) soft drinks and Chinese tea.

There’s a soup course to start. A small eats course with choices such as grilled vegetable dumplings, crispy duck roll, Chef’s selection Dim Sum and Salt and pepper squid –the latter two being our highlights. The dumplings and dim sum were generously filled so they were really meaty and filling.

The main course offered up choices of wok-fry prawns in Assam sauce, Mongolian style stir-fry rib eye beef, Sanpai chicken claypot and Tofu, aubergine and shiitake mushroom claypot. We opted for the Tofu dish and the rib eye, which were served with Edamame egg fried rice and braised lettuce. The rib eye was cooked to perfection: tender and tasty and just enough to ensure you still had room for dessert.

The dessert left the ice cream lover in me truly satisfied. We received a selection of ice creams and sorbets that were quickly devoured before they had time to melt. The ice creams offered up some great flavours – green tea, coffee and strawberry –while the soberts were fruity and refreshing – pina colda, lemon yogurt and a very intense blackberry – it felt light and luxurious just like the rest of the meal.

With a menu that encourages you to each order something different so that everyone gets to sample everything, we think it’s a winner. High five Hakkasan.
