His Highness (H.H.) the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held Friday via telephone a conversation with His Excellency (H.E.) President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to express condolences on the victims of an earthquake that hit Izmir province in western Turkey, earlier today, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

H.H. the Amir expressed to H.E. the Turkish President, during the phone call, Qatar's readiness to help alleviate the impacts of the disaster.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said that at least four people were killed and more than 150 people were injured in Turkey after a magnitude 6.6 earthquake rocked the western Izmir province.

AFAD said the quake occurred at a depth of 16.54 kilometres (around 10 miles). Anadolu Agency (AA) reported the agency saying that there was 3 million Turkish liras of emergency aid sent to the region.

Izmir Governor Yavuz Selim Kosger said that so far 70 people have been rescued from the debris.
