Earlier this month, King Salman had invited Gulf leaders and Arab states to two emergency summits in Mecca on May 30 to discuss recent 'aggressions and their consequences' in the region, the Saudi Press Agency said.
Tensions have soared in the Gulf region following the drone attacks on oil installations in the kingdom and attacks on four vessels, including two Saudi oil tankers, off the coast of the UAE.
Saudi Arabia accused Iran of ordering the recent drone attacks on two oil pumping stations in the kingdom, claimed by Yemen's Houthi group. Iran denied it was behind the attacks and a senior Iranian military commander was quoted as saying his country was not looking for war.
