H.E. the Minister Attends National Sports Day Activities from MoI

Doha: As a part of celebrating the national sports day, the Ministry of Interior represented by Qatar Police Sports Federation organized a big sporting event at Suhaim bin Hamad stadium of Qatar Sports Club on Tuesday, 14/2/2012. Minister of state and Chairman of Qatar Sports Club H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, Minister of state for interior affairs H.E. Sheikh Abudllah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of Arab and Qatar Police Sports Federations Brig. Khalid bin Hamad Al Atiyyah and directors of various departments of the Ministry of Interior attended the event. More than 2000 participants from the Ministry of Interior and their families of different age group took part in the activities of the sports day, which comprised many group and individual sport games and activities and recreational programs and games for the children. In a statement to the local media, H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani expressed his gladness on this occasion and mentioned to the importance of sports in the life of the people and its several benefits for all and the staffers of the Ministry in particular. He also appreciated the efforts spent by Qatar Police Sports Federation for organizing the sports day for the Ministry of Interior employees in conjunction with National Sports Day. During the meet with the media, H.E. the Minister hailed the huge response and interest of the staffers of the Ministry and their families in attending and participating in various activities organized on this occasion and he pointed out the importance of spreading awareness on significance of sports among the community members. The activities of the celebration include football matches, aerobics, arm-wrestling, races in 100 m, 1000 m for adults and 50 m for children, body fitness competition for those who are above 45 years old, sports activities for people with special needs and recreational activities for children and adults. The organizing committee had arranged a special area for the children and a team from Medical Services Department was available on the spot to check the blood pressure and sugar as well. The teams from Police Training Institute and stores section of the Logistics Department won the first and second prizes respectively in the football match while in 1000 meter racing, Muhammed Waheed, Abdul Hameed Al Oud and Nooruddeen Bawasar won the first, second and third prizes respectively. In the ladies 1000 meter race, Sheikha Saqr, Al Anood Marhoun and Moza Salih clinched first, second and third prizes and H.E. the Minister of State for Interior Affairs crowned the medals for winners and conferred the prizes. In rope pulling competition, the civil defense team bagged the first prize in the competition with the participation of 70 competent.
