MEED’s Qatar Green Buildings 2009 conference will be held from March 17 to 19 under the patronage of HH Sheikha Mozah Nasser al-Misnad at the W Doha Hotel. Endorsed by the Qatar Council of Green Buildings, the event will provide an overview of Qatar’s green building opportunities, guidelines and future regulatory framework. “Increasingly in the region, new construction projects have to adhere to new ‘green’ building regulations,” MEED events chairman Edmund O’Sullivan stated. Currently there exists a lot of ambiguity around what the new sustainable regulations will be, and the programme at this event has been designed to help attendees clarify these uncertainties, he explained. The experts attending the conference include RMJM Design Principal Gordon Affleck, who will be speaking about Qatar’s first proposed LEED rated building Dubai Towers. Gulf Arup’s Sustainability Leader Jeffrey Willis will be discussing ways of using water recycling in buildings. Qatar Foundation’s Projects Development Director Issa M al-Mohannadi, who is also a senior representative of the Qatar Green Building Council and CEO of the recently launched Dohaland, is a speaker. Qatar Green Buildings Conference 2009 is sponsored by Qatar Cool (Qatar District Cooling Company), a newly formed private sector joint venture company owned 51% by United Development Company, 44% by Dubai-based National District Cooling Company (Tabreed) and 5% by private Qatari investors. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=277980&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
