Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa celebrated World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2013. To commemorate the day the hotel launched an innovative Employee Reward program a month prior to the event. The program invited Grand Heritage employees to ‘go green’ by adopting environmentally healthy practices and lifestyles. Employees were invited to submit innovative approaches they can commit to at their work place and at home, upholding the concepts of recycling, conservation and maintaining a minimal carbon footprint. The winner of the month long contest is Grand Heritage’s Human Resources Department employee, Mr. Fredrick Wijayasinghe. He took several innovative approaches at work to promote re-using paper products. He re-crafted throw away materials to produce useful items in the likes of waste baskets made of cardboard boxes, led a concerted power conservation effort by switching off Air Conditioning once a room cools, using day light as against artificial light, minimizing the use of plastic and synthetic products and passionately promoting recycling. Colleagues say that his enthusiasm to promote environmentally sound practices has spread among other members of staff. The management of Grand Heritage has decided to continue to reward deserving members of staff through the Go Green award on a monthly basis, offering an opportunity for others to also receive the award. Commenting on the hotel’s World Environment Day celebrations Pierre Marie Vasseur, General Manager of Grand Heritage said: “We are extremely pleased how our staff members have enthusiastically embraced the Go Green idea. The competition was exciting and we are glad that it brought out such an encouraging response. Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa has always been committed to caring for the environment. Our hotel recognizes the need for responsible environmental management and is devoted to improving energy and water efficiency, reducing and recycling waste, protecting the environment, and thereby positively contributing to Qatar's community. Our idea is to work at multiple levels of the business, from employees to guests and suppliers - we want to minimize the adverse impact our hotel’s operations have on the environment. Today's celebration and the monthly contest reflect this commitment." - ILQ News -
