Give GCC private sector bigger role: Qatar

Qatar yesterday called for greater interaction between the private sector and the governments of GCC countries to ensure that the long-term goals of sustainable development in the region aided by knowledge-based economy are achieved. Envisioning a wider role for the GCC private sector in regional development, The Emir endorsed the idea of heads of GCC states meeting annually the chiefs of chambers of commerce from member-countries. The Emir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, said at a Federation of GCC Chambers’ dinner reception at Grand Hyatt last evening that legislations must be changed to make sure the private sector played a more active role in social and economic development in the region in the face of a number of challenges posed by the changing world economic order. The Federation of GCC Chambers is organising its 30th anniversary celebrations here from today which is being opened by the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani.
