Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani - Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority The 1st Red Bull Flugtag Qatar will visit Doha on November 1, taking take place at the Museum of Islamic Art Park.
Flying has always been a dream for everyone. In the 19th century, Arab inventor Abbas Ibn Firnas designed a flying machine consisting of a structure and large wings, and tried to fly. He succeeded for a short distance. However, today, creative designers in Qatar are working hard on designing flying machines that might make their dream come true at the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Qatar. The competition will be held in collaboration with Ford, as one of the main sponsors, Innovations Unlimited ME, the event management agency and Qatar Museums Authority and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), as the host of the venue. Participating teams will design and build their unique human-powered flying machines. On the day of the event, all teams will try to fly and attract the crowd and the jury’s attention. Teams will be evaluated on 3 main criteria: creativity of the craft, showmanship and flight distance. Besides trying to fly as far as possible from a 6-meter high platform, Red Bull Flugtag participants will try to appeal to the jury by designing a unique flying machine. They will also have to perform an entertaining show for 60 seconds to impress both the crowd and the 5 judges before taking off and landing in the water. Red Bull Flugtag (2).jpg All teams consist of a pilot and 3 crew members, and are bound to Red Bull Flugtag rules which consists of some of the following: the flying machine plus the pilot’s weight should not exceed 180kg, and the aircrafts width should not exceed 8 meters. The use of engines or any pulling source is forbidden as the crew members shall be the only manual assistance. Ford Middle East is joining the action-packed event, as part of its partnership with Red Bull, bringing the automotive brand closer to the region’s youth. Paul Anderson, Ford Middle East’s regional Marketing director said: “We’re excited to partner with Red Bull to bring the Red Bull Flugtag to Doha this year. This is a great platform for us to showcase the hottest Ford models while engaging the youth with the latest and coolest technologies that Ford offers today.” Red Bull Flugtag (3).jpg Deadline for registration is June 10, 2013 and the selected teams will be notified on June 15th.
