As part of its plan for creating awareness on safety measures in collaboration with institutions in the country, the General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD) conducted a mock fire drill at the Qatar Gas tower in West Bay yesterday. The exercise was supervised by the director of the Operations Department at the GDCD, Brigadier Hamad Al Duhaimi, and Captain Khamees Salem Al Suwaidi, head of the Azizia Civil Defence Centre and evacuation officer at GDCD. The drill started with information received at the operation room about a fire in the 23rd floor of the building. Firefighting and rescue teams from Wadi Al Sail Civil Defence Centre moved to the site with three vehicles – a fire engine, a mobile escalator with a 55-metre arm used for rescue in high-rise buildings and a rapid intervention vehicle. Security personnel at the building evacuated it and guided staff to a safe assembly point. The firefighting and rescue team contained the mock fire. Rescue Police (Al Fazaa) and ambulance services also participated in the exercise. Source : Qatar Chronicle
