The third meeting of the board of directors of the GCC Criminal Information Centre for Combating Drugs began in Doha yesterday. The three-day meeting will discuss issues related to drug-combating and the co-operation required among the GCC states for its success. Apart from GCC delegations, representatives from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) also attend the meeting. The centre’s director, Colonel Saqr Rashid al-Murakhi, said subjects such as transferring the information from member countries to the main database at the centre headquarters and how to handle the information at later stages will be discussed. At the meeting, besides preparing the annual agenda of the centre, the launching of its website and creating further awareness programmes for GCC communities will be discussed. The outcome of the meeting will be presented in the GCC Interior Ministers’ meeting to be held in UAE next month. Col al-Murakhi said the centre would sign an agreement with the UNDOC to activate the centralised database and its programmes. The centre will also deal with information collection, its storage, analysis and its exchange with member countries in its bid to help them in criminal investigation of drug cases Gulf Times
