The law enforcement agencies have busted a gang of six shady operatives who were posing as policemen and fleecing innocent expatriates of cash and belongings. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ministry of Interior said it and several other public security agencies had been receiving complaints from people about such a gang taking expatriates for a ride. The gang members were posing as policemen and entering homes of single workers and taking away cash and belongings. The victims gave in easily thinking they were really policemen. “We collected sufficient information about the crimes and got even detailed description of these shady operatives. A task force was subsequently set up to trap them,” the CID said in a statement yesterday. A manhunt was launched and six suspects were identified. A search warrant was sought from the agency concerned and the men were taken into custody for interrogation. They were later identified by some of the victims as well. The alleged gangsters gave in during questioning and confessed to having committed the crimes. They were all friends and have been referred to the Capital Police for further interrogation and subsequent action, the CID said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=May2009&file=Local_News2009051723815.xml
