Gallery One (G-1), the leading retail art gallery brand in the Middle East, has opened a store at The Pearl-Qatar overlooking La Croisette marina. Featuring art from local, regional and international artists, g-1 is described as a blend of decorative and collectable contemporary artworks suited for homes and offices. The group’s founder Gregg Sedgwick hopes to bring colour and style to rooms using “affordable, collectable and unique artwork”. Qatar is the third country after the UK and Bahrain to host a g-1 store outside the UAE, where it was launched in 2006 in Dubai. Ibrahim al-Jaidah, the franchise partner in Qatar said: “Gallery One is an intriguing concept and among the highlights of the outlet at the time of the launch were iconic collector’s items like a boxing glove autographed by Mohamed Ali and a track shoe with Usain Bolt’s inimitable scrawl on its side. “Going beyond the typical art gallery, Gallery One is priced competitively and has tried to make something available for everyone.” The store offers five categories of products. The Home line ranges from art boxes to limited and unlimited photographic prints from a growing range of collections. The Editions line features limited edition prints by selected creative partners who contribute regularly to the g-1 network. The Collections section has highly sought after prints by globally renowned artists. A ‘Signed By’ section offers photographic print memorabilia signed by the subject. The autographed prints are fully authenticated and come with a comprehensive guarantee. The fifth product line, Etcetera, is a high-quality range of novelty goods ranging from flick books, postcards, lomographs, notecards and even refrigerator magnets. The launch of the g-1 at The Pearl-Qatar was also accompanied by the launch of a bespoke Getty Images collection featuring candid photography of Qatar.
