Doha:
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has announced the opening of Fuwairit Beach to the public from today. It was closed in April in view of the nesting season of the Hawksbill Sea Turtles.

The nesting season of turtles this year was successful at all standards. The nesting percentage was large at the islands and north coasts of the country, especially at Al-ghareyah, Fuwairit, Almorona, and Almafir, said Mohammad Mubarak Al-Merri, Manager of the Hawksbill Sea Turtles Protection Project, from the Environmental Protection and Nature Reserves and Wildlife Administration at the ministry.

The Sea Turtles Project had been carried out by the ministry since 2013, in cooperation with Qatar petroleum and Qatar university, Al-Merri added.

He also pointed out that the ministry had organized several events for schools and companies with the beginning of the sea turtles nesting season in Fuwairit beach.

The nesting sites at Fuwairit beach have been fenced off completely in order to protect the endangered turtles during their nesting, as well as to provide the opportunity to study their behavior and interactions with the environment.
