Friday will be first day of Ramadan 2020 in Qatar: Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs

The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced that Friday, 24 April 2020 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.


In a statement, the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs said that it held its meeting on Thursday evening, Shaaban 30, 1441 AH, according to the Qatari calendar corresponding to Shaaban 29, according to what has been legally proven by the Committee, corresponding to April 23, 2020, to sight the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan and to prove the testimony of whoever see it.

The Committee said the Ramadan crescent was sighted and announced that Friday, April 24, is the first of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Committee extended greetings to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, as well as the Government, the people of Qatar and all Muslims, on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.


Ramadan is the fourth pillar of Islam. This Holy month is a spiritual time when Muslims focus on fasting, charity activities as well as good deeds.
